Spotify, the streaming music service that’s been all the rage in Europe, has finally launched in the United States on Thursday.
"Spotify, the largest and fastest growing music service of its kind, is available from today in the U.S.," the company said in a statement.
The free version is financed by advertising and comes with some restrictions, which users can avoid by purchasing a five or ten euro (or five or ten dollar) plan. Listeners can also buy individual songs.
Spotify said it now has some 10 million users including more than 1.6 million paying ones – across Sweden, Norway, France, Finland, Britain, Spain and the Netherlands.
