Facebook Valued at $70 Billion by GSV

Investment fund GSV Capital Corp. said it had acquired 225,000 Facebook shares at $29.28 each.

The per-share price GSV paid is slightly below what Facebook’s shares were trading recently on private stock exchanges. On SharesPost, one such exchange, Facebook shares were recently trading for $33.50 each.

Based on SharesPost’s estimate that Facebook has roughly 2.4 billion shares, the GSV values the company at about $70.6 billion.

"Facebook is a one-of-a-kind business which has created enormous network effects," GSV Capital’s CEO and founder, Michael Moe, said in a written statement. He called the investment "a great example of how we intend to quickly seize opportunities."

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said last month that he isn’t planning to take his company public just yet, but many tech followers expect such a move by the end of the year.
