BlackBerry App World Reaches 1 Billion Downloads

RIM’s mobile software portal, App World, is now enjoying 3 million downloads daily, and has recently hit the 1 billion download mark.

According to RIM, the store, which is running in some BlackBerry smartphones and the company’s BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, is available in over 100 countries around the world.

However, it’s a bit lame when you compare it to Apple’s recently announced record and the fact that the iTunes App Store is averaging a billion downloads a month these days. To further compare, Google revealed in April that the Android Market has seen over three billion app downloads, with the last billion being installed in the three months previous to the announcement.
