Best Buy to Launch Cloud Music Service in U.S. This Year

The world’s largest consumer electronics retailer, Best Buy Co., plans to expand a UK online music platform to the United States to challenge Amazon and Apple.

The retailer’s UK Music Cloud service, My Music Anywhere UK, enables users to stream their media files through the cloud to a variety of supported devices, including the Apple iPhone, RIM BlackBerry devices, and Google Android devices, among others.

Sources familiar with the matter said the service would launch by the end of this year.

Best Buy is reported to have secured agreements with a number of record labels, including Sony Universal, EMI, and Warner Music.
