Microsoft anouned Friday that it has named Frank Holland as new chief of advertising sales business. Holland, replacing Darren Huston who has left the company, will report to Microsoft’s chief operating officer, Kevin Turner.
Microsoft gave no reason for the change, but on Tuesday, Yahoo Chief Executive Carol Bartz blamed Microsoft’s adCenter technology for failing to generate revenue the company expected for its alliance with Microsoft.
Huston will be in charge of Microsoft’s global advertising sales and consumer marketing. However, he was not responsible for the adCenter platform technology.
The new group will be called Advertising and Online and won’t include other consumer businesses, suggesting that Microsoft is taking a closer look at the ad business.
