LCD shipment growth fell to 9% in the first quarter, leading global TV shipments to just a 1% increase, year to year. Quarter to quarter, total shipments were down 29% to 55.2 million units, which is a sharper seasonal decline than usual, according to the research firm DislpaySearch.
During the first quarter of 2011, over 44.2 million LCD televisions were shipped worldwide, earning the technology 80.1 percent ownership of the overall TV market.
On the vendor side, DisplaySearch found that Samsung reigned supreme in the quarter with 22.2 percent market share. LG and Sony rounded out the top three with 14.5 percent and 11.4 percent worldwide market share, respectively.
