Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. has bought Seattle-based Dashwire Inc., a mobile-web application company, to strengthen its range of mobile cloud services offerings.
Dashwire has developed a platform that lets phone users back up data created on their phones to the cloud. From a computer, users can then access their phone contacts, text messages, calendar entries, call log, photos, videos and voicemail messages. They can also send and receive text messages, manage contacts, make new calendar items and listen to voicemail from a browser on a computer.
HTC Chief Operating Officer Fred Liu said Dashwire’s advanced web-connected and mobile cloud technologies would help HTC offer better services to its customers at a time when mobile communications and cloud computing technologies hold the key to the company’s future development.
The companies did not disclose terms of the deal.
