UK Tablet Sales Rise as netbooks Continue to Fall
Tablet sales in UK rose by a huge 910 per cent in the first quarter of 2011, as people continue to flock to the portable form factor at the expense of netbooks, according to figures from market research firm Context. American Ecpress is investing in mobile phone payment company, Payfone. AmEx is expected to announce that it is the lead investor in a $19 million financing for Payfone Inc., a New York start-up that also is backed by the venture-capital arms of Verizon Communications Inc. and Research In Motion Ltd. AOL and the Huffington Post faced a lawsuit Tuesdaym for one blogger says they unfairly pocketed more than $100 million by not paying free-lance contributors when AOL bought the popular news website last month. Intel to Establish a New Research Centre in Finland
Intel, world’s largest semiconductor chip maker, is planning to open a new research and development centre in Finland just as Intel’s partner Nokia is to reveal significant layoffs at the end of April. The company also plans to employ about 200 people. Intel is recruiting hardware and software engineers now. Groupon is likely to pick Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to lead a second-half initial public offering priced at $15 to $20 billion, according to a report from Wall Street Journal.
