A presentation at The Cable Show in Chicago this Thursday, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts showed off the next-generation cable broadband technology. Robert showed a live 1-mile cable network and then we got the result as above. According to the speech, deliver data at over 1 gigabit per second to our home maybe not so far away.

Comcast is the largest broadband provider in the U.S. “Our broadband sales have been better. Our revenue per customer has gone up as we have increased speeds and better broadband,” said Roberts. “The gap has widened with other networks.”

The cable industry is really growing slower than the other industry. Now its facing the pressure from fiber-based network providers who are splitting the business with the advantage of brand new networks with higher capacities. Ad its also facing pressure from faster wireless speeds from ISPs deploying LTE.

As Comcast need to hold the part of business, it has to offer faster wireline networks and wireless networks for customers, no matter if home or outside the home. The key point is fully consider about the convenience of customers.

We don’t know how long it will take 1 Gbps broadband reach to every family, but it still a sign that Cable industry is finally ready to run the race. Robert is quite confident and said everything is on the way now. “In 2020, we will want more bits in and out of our homes and we will build that, and we are confident that they will come,” Roberts added.

Besides, Robert also pointed the upgraded Wi-Fi service could be great news to gamers.
